When I was a little girl, every week, without fail, my family would sit in front of the TV together and watch The Cosby Show. We loved it! But once I grew up and started my own family those shows were a thing of the past. Don’t get me wrong, there is a ton of entertainment out there, but nothing to bridge the gap between Disney and Scandal (Hey Olivia!). And if someone were to ask me how long I have waited for a TV show that I could sit and watch with my kids, my answer would be the age of my oldest kid.
Enter Blackish, my new favorite family sitcom!
It follows a man and his family trying to navigate what it feels like to be a successful Black family in a predominately non-Black neighborhood. And it’s hilarious!!! Nevermind the fact that it’s the only family sitcom… I won’t concede that’s it’s only my favorite by default. Nevermind the fact that my kids go to bed at 7:30p so they technically don’t watch it with me… we DVR. Nevermind the fact that Rainbow isn’t giving me the Clair Huxtable- no-nonsense/ you know I love you more than life but don’t get it twisted/ I run this– parenting style that I dig. Nevermind the fact that no one would ever even ask me that question to begin with. I love the show. I hope it’s around for a long time :).
